The plausible sad notion in regards to an SS man receiving such a grueling fate is that towards the end of the war, a lot of SS men were conscripted. A lot of them were neither German nor Austrian. Some were voluntary but especially on the Eastern side, they tried to get every man they could get to fight against the Soviet hordes...so much that they went against the doctrine of Nazi ideology such as recruiting Slavs. So, the guy they forced to play the piano may have been from Eastern Europe. Who knows. Interesting piece....this is the first I've heard of this.
