It would've been better for him to say that he did not want anything to do with that 26%, and that he had no desire to help them because that 26% would be a hate group, just without a catchy title. In that case, it's totally agreeable that it does not pay off to reach out to them and help them. They're just as lost and clueless as any other kind of racist on this planet.
