It matters to me to the extent that I'm concerned about people who do not agree, who do not see this lining up with their own sense of reality or POV, and then being condemned for it as bigots. Let's face it. This is difficult stuff for people to understand, especially older generations. And it's also interesting when it escalates to certain things, such as allowing transwomen on women's sports teams. I'm not dividing people. I'm just asking and if just asking is division, then heaven help us because we're wrecking ourselves.
