In rehab, there is what we call "big T" traumas and "little T" traumas. The former are classed as those that every average person can understand in terms of why a person is traumatized, such as surviving a terrorist attack or being in combat. The latter are those which people cannot easily relate to but are prescribed to individual persons who under their own individual circumstances went through something uniquely traumatizing to them, such as religious trauma or love/relationship trauma. With that being said, it is not meant to be that big T traumas are more serious than little T traumas, as for the individual, his little T traumas are his own unique set of big T traumas. It is a grievous mistake to assume small T traumas are not serious or not just as serious.
