I don't base this practice on the Bible (though no doubt the "old-fashioned" style of disciplining has a good deal of its heritage in it) but simply because I think it is an effective way to raise children if done appropriately.

There are some people who will do worse and make it ineffective, such as the disgusting tradition some parents take to by videoing whipping or giving corporal punishment to their children, and then post it on YouTube.

Now that is horrible!
