Give it another forty to sixty years, and it will probably be just another moment in history class; pretty much all who were around that time will have passed away by then. Germans should be conscious of their own history but like their European neighbors, need to learn to embrace national pride in a more explicit way, in the sense that those who wish to do so, will not be shamed in doing so and not be viewed as extremists. Maybe someday....
But I also sort of like the way you describe it at the same time. In a way, it belongs to that distinct trait of Germans being very pragmatic and so question what is the point that explicit national pride serves.
