Even Donald Trump himself once said that the acceptable age to lawfully purchase an assault weapon does not make any sense, because you can be 18 and buy an assault rifle, but you have to be 21 to buy a pistol. I think raising the age limit and background checks are a good start; I also thought about the idea of one having to acquire a special license to purchase an assault-type weapon, just like people have to do if they wish to purchase a fully-automatic weapon.
