Apparently, it does not work based on the varieties of Communist regimes in the past and present that have tried to suppress religious activities in their countries. Of course, I do not know to what extent that Marx originally meant by separation of church and state. Did he mean for the complete eradication of religious institutions and activities from society, as a government-enforced secularization? Or did he simply mean keeping the two entities — the church and state — separate and completely isolated in respect to their roles in society? If it is the former, it is one of the several reasons why Marxism has failed in nations that have attempted to establish a complete socialist state and what’s more, have expanded their secularization methodologies into the criminal. If it is simply the latter, then how come so many have gotten it wrong?
